Financial Controller Location: On-site, 5 days per week Sector: Renewable Energy / Infrastructure / Biogas Reporting to: CFO About The Company Our client is a PE backed fast-growing renewable energy business focused on biomethane and waste-to-energy infrastructure. The business develops, builds and operates greenfield biogas plants across the UK, supported by long-term government-backed revenues and infrastructure funding. With a growing asset base, expanding operations and increased financial complexity, They are now looking to appoint a hands-on Financial Controller to strengthen financial control, reporting, and systems as the business scales. The Role This is a broad, operational Financial Controller role, ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the detail while also improving processes and systems. You will take ownership of day-to-day finance, reporting, and controls, while leading the upgrade and automation of financial reporting, including improving Xero and integrating additional tools to support scale. This role is office-based 5 days per week to ensure close collaboration with operations, projects and senior management. Key Responsibilities Financial Control & Reporting • Own the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate management accounts • Prepare monthly reporting packs with clear variance analysis and commentary • Maintain strong balance sheet control, including fixed assets and project costs • Oversee budgeting, forecasting and cash flow forecasting • Support year-end audit process and statutory accounts preparation Systems & Automation • Lead the upgrade, optimisation or integration of Xero, improving robustness and scalability • Identify and implement add-on tools (e.g. reporting, forecasting, expense or project cost tracking) • Automate recurring reporting and reconciliations where possible • Improve data quality, visibility and reporting efficiency across the business Operational Finance • Work closely with operations and project teams to track build costs, capex and asset performance • Support funding, grants and government-backed revenue reporting • Strengthen cost control, controls and processes as the business scales • Support senior leadership with financial insight and decision-making Team & Process • Hands-on role with responsibility for quality and accuracy of outputs • Build scalable finance processes suitable for a growing infrastructure business • Support future hiring within the finance function as the business grows Candidate Profile Essential • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA/CIMA) • Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role • Demonstrable experience improving systems, processes and reporting • Comfortable in a scale-up or growing business environment • Strong attention to detail with a practical, delivery-focused mindset Desirable • Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, construction or asset-heavy businesses • Experience integrating finance systems or reporting tools alongside Xero • Exposure to project accounting, capex tracking or government-backed revenues Why Join • Join a high-growth renewable energy business with long-term infrastructure assets • Play a key role in shaping finance systems as the business scales • High-impact role with visibility across the senior leadership team • Stable, government-backed sector with strong growth prospects • Competitive salary and long-term career progression
