Reporting to: Chief Financial Officer

Location: South Buckinghamshire

Work format: Hybrid - one day per week in the office

Duration:6 month contract

Our client is an engineering, construction and operations specialist providing sustainable and cost-effective organic waste management & renewable energy solutions. They are a market leader particularly in designing, building and operating anaerobic digestion facilities. These facilities process crops, food waste and agricultural wastes, avoiding putting organics into landfill, capturing harmful methane, generating renewable energy and producing an organic fertilizer. They work on projects in the UK and the Far East and is developing opportunities in other parts of the world as well as looking to expand its offerings into new technologies.

Role Overview

Your role will be to manage all aspects of the group’s financial systems, forecasting and reporting. You will also support the commercial, engineering and operations teams with management information and bid support.There will be one additional member of the finance team who will undertake day-to-day transaction processing; the team will grow as necessary depending on business requirements. This will be a hands-on role.

Major Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role are varied and will evolve over time. As a small company, the business has a culture of people supporting each other in delivering their roles. The FC’s main ongoing responsibilities include:

  • Production of timely, high-quality management accounts each month with fully reconciled balance sheet accounts including variance analysis to budget
  • Preparation of annual budget and any other formal re-forecasts
  • Management of group cash balances and providing cashflow forecasting
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate systems and software to run the financial side of the business and manage financial control and risk
  • Undertaking financial modelling to support commercial bids, tenders and new product analysis
  • Providing divisional reporting to understand results for particular elements of the business
  • Production of project financial reporting with comparisons to commitments and budgets for large project work being undertaken
  • Reviewing overseas joint venture accounting (prepared by others)
  • Managing the financial audit, tax, CIS and VAT compliance
  • Maintaining the primary relationship with the group’s bankers, lenders and FX managers
  • Managing the group’s insurances

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role, or in a role aspiring to be a Financial Controller in an SME
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convert financial data into useful information for the Leadership Team
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Knowledge of Sage is an advantage
  • Ability to self-manage, with support from Leadership Team
  • Good interpersonal skills
