THE PRINCIPAL SAFETY ENGINEER ROLE
As Principal Safety Engineer, you will lead safety assurance activities across the design, development and maintenance of complex naval platform systems. You will be responsible for deriving safety activities, leading analysis, influencing design decisions and presenting robust safety arguments to internal and external stakeholders. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams across systems, hardware, software, firmware, ILS, project management, customer and supplier groups. This role will also involve leading safety reviews, supporting audits, producing high quality technical documentation and mentoring more junior engineers where required.
PRINCIPAL SAFETY ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Active SC clearance and UK citizenship
- Experience working in a safety-related engineering environment
- Experience leading technical safety activities
- Understanding of safety standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056
- Experience with safety assurance of COTS PE based systems and/or high integrity software
- Ability to understand hardware and software failure modes, causes and effects
- Experience with safety and reliability analysis techniques such as HAZOP, FMECA, FTA, Functional Failure Analysis and hazard analysis
- Experience with risk assessments and developing ALARP justifications
- Degree, Master’s, HND or HNC in Engineering, Safety Management or a related discipline
