We are supporting an early-stage autonomous vehicle company building robotics software and hardware platforms for industrial environments. The business is small, ambitious and moving quickly, building the mapping and autonomy stack that underpins how their vehicles perceive and move through the world. This is an environment where engineers have genuine ownership and real influence on technical direction from day one.
You will help develop the LiDAR and vision based mapping pipelines used across perception, localization and navigation. You will work with multi sensor data and large scale mapping systems, turning real world sensor inputs into accurate, reliable maps that the autonomy stack depends on. This is a hands-on role with the autonomy to own what you build, from design through to deployment and iteration.
- Develop and improve LiDAR and vision based mapping pipelines.
- Build 2D and 3D map representations, including occupancy grids and HD maps.
- Work with multi sensor fusion (LiDAR, cameras, GNSS/INS, odometry).
- Integrate mapping with SLAM and localization systems for stable, drift free operation.
- Contribute to large scale mapping, including multi session and fleet ready workflows.
- Own your work end to end, collaborating closely with perception and localization engineers.
Essential experience includes:
- A foundation in robotics fundamentals: estimation, geometry, transforms (TF2).
- Exposure to C++ and ROS2, or the ability and drive to get there quickly.
- An understanding of LiDAR, point cloud or vision based mapping, whether from study, research, Formula Student, or professional work.
- For more experienced candidates, hands-on large scale mapping and the ability to lead and shape the map stack.
- A genuine passion for autonomy and a builder mindset.
Desirable skills include:
- LiDAR and point cloud processing (PCL, Open3D).
- Vision based mapping (stereo or mono reconstruction, visual SLAM).
- Multi sensor fusion pipelines.
- Knowledge of semantic mapping or ML based scene understanding.
- Familiarity with real time systems and distributed mapping architectures.
What's on offer:
- Salary up to £95,000 depending on experience.
- A role shaped around you, from graduate through to lead.
- High ownership and real influence over the mapping platform and technical direction.
- The chance to work on live deployments in challenging real world environments.
- A fast-paced, early-stage environment where you can grow quickly and make a real impact.
