Senior, business-wide role owning all Data Protection, GDPR and data risk matters. Reports directly to the General Counsel with strong senior stakeholder influence. Opportunity to step up or make a level transfer into a strategic leadership position. SC Clearance required as a minimum, must be a sole UK National citizen. Hybrid working, competitive salary + package.
Overview: As Head of Data Protection & Privacy, you will take ownership of all data protection, GDPR compliance, and wider data governance activities across the business. Acting as the subject matter expert, you will advise senior leaders, shape policy, and ensure data protection principles are embedded across projects, contracts, and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all data privacy matters
- Developing and maintaining data protection strategies, policies, and controls
- Leading DPIAs and embedding Privacy by Design across projects
- Managing data incidents and breaches, including regulatory engagement where required
- Reviewing data protection clauses in contracts and third-party agreements
- Defining KPIs, conducting audits, and proactively managing data risk
- Delivering training and promoting organisation-wide data protection awareness
Essential Skills:
- Proven leadership experience in Data Protection, GDPR and privacy compliance
- Strong ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience with DSARs, DPIAs, RoPAs and LIAs
- Experience leading data breach investigations and incident response
- Solid understanding of data risk management and governance frameworks
- Working knowledge of cyber security principles
- Awareness of relevant standards such as ISO, NIST and Cyber Essentials
- Understanding of AI governance and data risks in emerging technologies
