Excellence opportunity for a senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a growing, cloud-focused Managed Service Provider supporting complex customer environments across multiple industries. Permanent, full-time position primarily based from the Hampshire office, with some flexibility and travel between offices when required. Well suited to engineers operating at 3rd line level within an MSP who enjoy technical ownership, complex problem-solving, and supporting wider support teams.
Our client is an established and expanding Managed Service Provider with a strong emphasis on cloud and infrastructure services. They support a diverse customer base and operate a structured escalation model, offering senior engineers the opportunity to work across varied and technically challenging environments while contributing to mentoring and continuous improvement.
This role sits at the senior end of the support function, focusing on advanced escalations and complex infrastructure issues. You’ll work closely with the service desk, take ownership of high-level tickets, and support customer environments spanning on-prem, private cloud, and Azure platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as a 3rd line escalation point for infrastructure, cloud, and networking issues.
- Supporting and maintaining Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting VMware, Hyper-V, and hyper-converged platforms.
- Managing and supporting storage technologies including SAN, iSCSI, and vSAN.
- Supporting Microsoft Azure and private cloud services.
- Administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and hybrid Active Directory environments.
- Implementing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Configuring and troubleshooting enterprise networking, including switching, VLANs, routing, and wireless.
- Supporting firewall platforms such as Fortinet, WatchGuard, and Cisco using GUI and command-line tools.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to 2nd line engineers.
- Producing clear technical documentation and escalating to specialist teams where appropriate.
What will you need?
- At least 5 years’ experience working in IT infrastructure, ideally within an MSP environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux systems.
- Proven experience supporting VMware, Hyper-V, and hyper-converged infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of enterprise storage technologies.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID, and hybrid identity setups.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Defender, and modern workplace technologies.
- Advanced networking skills across switching, routing, VLANs, and wireless.
- Confidence supporting firewall and connectivity technologies.
- Comfortable mentoring junior engineers and managing complex escalations.
What would be desirable?
- Exposure to Microsoft Purview or compliance-focused tooling.
- Experience delivering infrastructure upgrades or cloud migration projects.
- Previous responsibility for multi-site or multi-customer environments.
- A structured, documentation-led approach to technical work.
- Certifications (beneficial): Microsoft certifications focused on Infrastructure or Azure, Legacy Microsoft certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, MCP, or MCTS.
