The Communications Systems Engineer role
As a Communications Systems Engineer, you’ll design, integrate, and optimise advanced SDR (Software-Defined Radio) systems for use in complex mission environments. You’ll be working with communication architectures, protocols, and network topologies to deliver secure and resilient communication systems. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to ground-breaking Defence and Intelligence projects while working alongside experts in RF, software, and payload engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and optimising SDR system architectures
- Developing and implementing communication interfaces and protocols
- Modelling and designing network topologies and link budgets
- Integrating SDR solutions into wider mission systems
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and protocols
- Conducting testing and validation of communication systems
Essential Skills
- Strong experience with SDR system architectures for communications applications
- Knowledge of interfaces, protocols, encoding schemes, and standards (TCP/IP, IEEE 802, cellular network standards, FEC schemes)
- Experience designing network topologies and link budgets
- Familiarity with integration of SDR systems and components
- Proficiency with network modelling and system design tools
Desirable
- Real-time communication systems and network management experience
- OpenCPI, GnuRadio, Python, C/C++, SDR tools
- Linux environments and GitLab version control
- Defence or Cyber communications systems experience
- Interoperability testing and performance analysis
