Enterprise Microsoft environment with full Purview licensing.

Opportunity to shape and mature Information Governance capability.

Due to ongoing investment in data governance and compliance, we’re seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Specialist to join a well‑established UK organisation. With access to the full Microsoft Purview suite under top‑tier licensing, the business is now looking to fully leverage the platform beyond basic eDiscovery usage and embed robust Information Governance practices across the organisation.

You will be responsible for expanding and optimising the organisation’s use of Microsoft Purview, moving beyond reactive eDiscovery processes into proactive, structured Information Governance. While eDiscovery is currently in place (largely supporting GDPR/DPA requests), this role will focus on implementing and managing the wider Purview feature set, ensuring data is correctly classified, labelled, protected and monitored across the estate.

This is not a role for someone with surface‑level exposure or purely theoretical knowledge. We’re looking for hands‑on, real‑world experience implementing governance controls in a live enterprise environment — someone who understands the practical challenges and common pitfalls of rolling out Information Governance at scale.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Proven commercial experience administering and implementing Microsoft Purview in a professional environment.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with:
    • Information cataloguing and data discovery.
    • Sensitivity and retention labelling.
    • Creating and managing sensitivity and retention policies.
    • Manual and automated data classification.
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP) configuration and monitoring.
    • Experience embedding governance frameworks within Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Strong understanding of data protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, DPA).
  • Ability to identify and mitigate common implementation challenges and governance “gotchas”.
  • Experience working with Legal, Compliance, IT and Security stakeholders.
WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
  • Candidates whose experience is limited to eDiscovery or DSAR request handling only.
  • Individuals with knowledge of Purview gained solely through training courses without practical, hands‑on implementation experience.
