THE ROLE
As the HGV Technician, you'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing a modern commercial vehicle fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational at all times. Working within a professional workshop environment, you'll carry out servicing, inspections, diagnostics, fault-finding, and repairs while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.
Responsibilities include:
- Carrying out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults
- Completing vehicle inspections and safety checks
- Maintaining accurate workshop records and documentation
- Supporting MOT preparation and compliance activities
- Conducting repairs on HGVs, trailers, and associated equipment
- Using diagnostic equipment to identify faults efficiently
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health & safety procedures
- Supporting colleagues within the workshop team
- Contributing to fleet reliability and operational performance
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Relevant Heavy Vehicle Maintenance qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience working on HGVs, LGVs, commercial vehicles, or fleet equipment
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Good understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair procedures
- Strong awareness of health & safety requirements
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Good communication and record-keeping skills
- Reliable, adaptable, and professional approach
Desirable:
- HGV Category C Licence
- IRTEC Accreditation
- ADR Qualification
- Experience working within fleet, transport, logistics, or engineering environments
Previous experience gained within HGV maintenance, commercial vehicle repair, fleet engineering, logistics, transport, REME, Royal Engineers, RAF Mechanical Transport, Royal Navy Engineering, or other military mechanical backgrounds would be highly beneficial.
