We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team working on advanced, mission-critical systems. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology programmes spanning defence, security, and complex system integration, working across the full software lifecycle from early concept through to production. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams, influence system design decisions, and help shape how high-quality software is delivered in complex environments.
The Role
As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will support development activities across a wide range of advanced technology domains, including:
- Radio Frequency and Optical Communications
- RADAR and Electronic Warfare
- Cyber and Cryptographic Systems
- Global Navigation Satellite Systems
- Joint, Air, Land, and Maritime platforms
Projects range from early proof-of-concept demonstrators to fully deployed production systems, offering exposure to varied levels of technical maturity.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the delivery of complex software projects across the full development lifecycle
- Design, develop, and test software in line with industry best practices
- Influence and support system architecture and design decisions
- Promote and embed modern development practices to ensure high-quality outcomes
- Collaborate closely with other engineering teams and customer-facing technical groups
- Build strong relationships within the customer and stakeholder community
Strong understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle
Experience designing and developing complex software systems
Ability to understand and influence system architecture and design
Proficiency with Java, Spring, and React
Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
Strong background in Agile delivery (Scrum, CI/CD, BDD)
Experience using source control and delivery tooling such as GitLab and Jira
