About the Client

Our client is a well-established technology organisation operating within the defence and national security sector, delivering highly specialised solutions to government and international customers. Known for technical excellence and long-term customer partnerships, the business is continuing to invest in its support and documentation capability. Due to continued programme demand, they are now looking for an experienced Technical Author to support this growth.

About the Role

As a Technical Author, you will take ownership of creating, reviewing and maintaining high-quality Technical Publications for both UK and international customers, ensuring alignment with MoD standards and customer expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing and maintaining technical publications including user manuals, maintenance manuals, SOPs, installation guides, training materials, safety notices and release notes
  • Authoring and peer-reviewing ILS artefacts, regulatory and safety documentation
  • Supporting bid, tender and quotation submissions with technical content
  • Collaborating with internal teams including Engineering, ILS, QA, Logistics, Sales and Compliance
  • Driving continuous improvement across customer support documentation and processes

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in a Technical Author role
  • Strong knowledge of JSPs and S1000D
  • Experience using Simple Technical English
  • Understanding of through-life support standards (e.g. DEF STAN 00-600, 00-40, 00-42, MIL-STD-217F, KiD)
  • Knowledge of ITIL v3 or v4
  • Degree or HND/HNC qualified
