ABOUT THE CLIENT: We are supporting a long established international software business with a large UK engineering organisation. They build industry specific software used by tens of thousands of customers across distribution, automotive, retail and rental, and they have been doing it for decades. They are now building out a core AI engineering capability and putting AI into their products at pace.
THE ROLE: Hands on product engineering in a team led by an architect and a team lead, based out of their Hungerford office. You will work across the full stack, React based front end, C# and .NET APIs, SQL Server and Postgres behind it, hosted on Azure or AWS. Alongside that you will be integrating large language models directly into the product.
WHAT THEY MEAN BY AI EXPERIENCE: They are not looking for people whose AI experience is using Claude, Cursor or Copilot to write code faster. They want engineers who have integrated LLMs into a live product or solution. If you have built something where a model is doing real work in front of customers, that is the conversation they want to have.
ON LEVEL: They are open on this. There are seats at engineer, senior and lead level and they will place the right person at the right level rather than working to a fixed job title. Salary goes up to £80,000 for the more senior end.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain full stack features, front end through API to database.
- Design and implement guardrails around model behaviour and output.
- Work on performance, scalability and security across the platform.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and engineering standards.
- Work closely with the architect, team lead and wider engineering team.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
- Strong commercial C# and .NET background.
- React based front end experience, or a close equivalent such as Angular or Next.js.
- SQL Server and Postgres.
- Genuine experience integrating LLMs into a product or solution.
- Cloud experience, Azure or AWS.
- Git based source control, GitHub or Azure DevOps.
- CI/CD, performance and scalability.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Able to be onsite in Hungerford 3 days a week.
DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIAL:
- Experience creating or running local or self-hosted LLMs.
- Guardrails, prompt injection defence and securing model outputs.
- Working fluency with AI development harnesses such as Claude, Codex or Cursor.
- Automotive, automotive aftermarket or vehicle rental domain knowledge.
WHAT'S ON OFFER: Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience. Hybrid working, 3 days onsite in Hungerford and 2 from home. Genuine AI product work in an established, profitable business rather than a startup bet.
