We are thrilled to be working closely with our client, a globally renowned manufacturing business, for a new Production Manager, part of a succession plan as the business heads towards an exciting growth and investment period.
Job Purpose
- To manage, motivate and develop a team of production operatives to deliver target customer service at optimal cost.
- To ensure that their Health & Safety, Environment and Quality policies are implemented and adhered to.
- Lead a structured program of continuous improvement activity working with the local management team.
- To support the development and implementation of a department strategy which encompasses manufacturing methods, engineering, organisation and people development plans, as well as the associated improvement and investment activities.
- Develop a management style that involves setting stretch goals involving all people within the site in finding solutions to achieve them.
- Responsible for management and decision making in delivering the requirements of the site to best cost efficiency and effectiveness in use of product.
Nature and Scope of Role
- Responsible for the running of the production department and providing strong and experienced leadership within the manufacturing structure of the site.
- Lead the production operatives to deliver their areas of responsibility.
- To provide strategic and tactical improvement strategies to support operational excellence and improved efficiencies.
- To be involved in recommendations on site manufacturing strategy in line with company goals and objectives.
- Ensure management of the team members is in line with all policies and procedures.
- Work with all other departments including: Sales, Estimating, Procurement, Warehouse, Goods in and Finance to ensure full involvement and understanding of the production activities and issues to be resolved.
Knowledge and Experience Required
- Formal qualification in manufacturing or a related discipline to degree, HND level, or equivalent experience with at least 5 years experience at a management level within a manufacturing environment.
- A consummate professional with a passion for world-class manufacturing, you will be able to demonstrate significant success in improving business performance through integrating and introducing a structured and systematic approach to Production management.
- Highly motivated by the challenge of continuous improvement you will have an understanding of CI techniques and principles.
- Able to work in a calm, controlled and effective manner in a progressive production environment, you will provide stability and guidance to the manufacturing team.
- A natural manager and leader you will demonstrate excellent coaching and influencing skills and the ability to motivate your team to deliver outstanding results.
- Commercially astute with good budgetary control skills and systems literacy, you must have a strong and broad based manufacturing background.
- Be able to demonstrate a positive understanding of the importance of key stakeholder management for both internal and external customers and show ability in 'political understanding' of situations and complex scenarios.
- Ability and confidence to make well informed and considered decisions.
- A real team player with experience at management level you will display the competencies required to be an effective member of the management team and have the confidence to take a significant lead in the site culture change program.

Principle Accountabilities
- Responsible for management and decision making in the receipt of goods and manufacturing requirements of the site to maximize cost and the effectiveness in use of product.
- Responsible for working closely with the relevant departments to manage the successful introduction of investment and planning the requirements for the future.
- Monitor and control cost saving projects and deliver within time and financial constraints.
- Provide tactical improvement strategies to support operational excellence and improved efficiencies.
- Responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the production department.
- Make recommendations and implement a site manufacturing strategy in line with company goals and objectives.
- Lead the Department towards an integrated manufacturing operation using systems to provide data for decision making.
- Accountable for managing, motivating and developing the team and support functions to be able to meet the day-to-day needs of the Department.
- To drive and embed accountability in self and others accountable for performance in terms of safety, quality, customer service and cost.
- Implement and monitor manufacturing best practice and ensure the appropriate statutory legislation is embedded within the departments. (H&S/EMS/ISO)
- Lead and support the creation of a continuous improvement organization.
- Drive performance improvement through manufacturing projects and improvement initiatives working closely with the local management team.
- Support the implementation of a structured program of Planned Servicing and Asset Management to improve reliability and meet compliance.
- Champion the people development agenda within the department & Support and implement people development initiatives to support the department strategy.
- Act as a champion within the management team for business excellence and team working.
- Identify and measure KPI's for all your team and act on performance issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate both formally and informally, Company and departmental information to the manufacturing teams.
- Work closely with the site management team to ensure good working relationships, improve business performance and deliver the site strategy.
- Achieve departmental key performance indicators to drive safety, cost, quality, delivery and service measures / targets.
- Develop employees within the department through individual and relevant development plans, lead by example and manage succession plans as required.
- Communicate effectively information both formally and informally from Managing Director to all levels of employees.
- Lead in building effective working relationships with the local Managers and identify areas of improvement to reduce down time issues.
