Job Title: Slinger with NG Persons Location: Midlands Contract Type: Contract – CIS Contract Length: 2 month rolling Purpose of the Role: To safely sling loads and direct lifting operations in compliance with National Grid, LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), and site-specific safety procedures, ensuring efficient and risk-free lifting operations. Key Responsibilities: Carry out slinging and signalling duties for cranes and lifting equipment in accordance with lifting plans and method statements. Ensure correct selection, inspection, and use of lifting accessories and equipment (e.g., chains, slings, shackles). Communicate clearly and effectively with the crane operator and other team members using recognized hand signals or radio communication. Perform pre-use checks on lifting accessories and report any defects immediately. Assist the Appointed Person and Crane Supervisor with planning and safe execution of lifting operations. Maintain exclusion zones and ensure all lifting activities are carried out safely and efficiently. Ensure compliance with National Grid safety rules, site permits, and environmental requirements. Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and daily coordination meetings. Stop work and escalate concerns if unsafe conditions are observed. Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of lifting operations, safe working practices, and hazard awareness on high-voltage sites. Ability to interpret and follow lifting plans and risk assessments. Good communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) for signalling and coordination. Ability to work as part of a team under strict safety protocols. Understanding of National Grid safety culture and life-saving rules. Qualifications and Certifications: CPCS / NPORS Slinger Signaller (All Types, All Duties) National Grid Person & BESC (Basic Electrical Safety Competence) CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Manual Handling & Banksman Training (desirable) First Aid at Work (desirable) Experience: Previous experience working as a Slinger/Signaller on substation or HV electrical projects. Experience working under strict permit-to-work systems and National Grid or DNO (Distribution Network Operator) environments. Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, and lifting best practices.
