Search Consultancy is looking for a skilled and experienced Steel Fixer to join a major construction project in Northumberland. We are seeking a dedicated professional with a strong background in reinforced concrete (RC) frames and structural steelwork, prioritising precision and safety in a fast-paced environment.

Comprehensive Role Specification

The successful candidate will be responsible for positioning and securing steel reinforcing bars and mesh used to strengthen concrete on-site. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reading Blueprints: Interpreting detailed engineering drawings and reinforcement schedules to determine the exact layout and placement of steel.
  • Bar Bending & Cutting: Utilizing hand and power tools to cut and bend steel bars or mesh to the required shapes and dimensions.
  • Assembly: Tying steel reinforcement bars (rebar) together using wire, clips, or welding to build cages and mats for slabs, columns, and walls.
  • Fixing & Positioning: Ensuring all steel is accurately positioned and securely fixed to withstand concrete pouring, including the use of spacers and chairs.
  • Quality Control: Verifying that all work meets structural specifications and passing inspections prior to concrete being poured.
  • Compliance: Adhering strictly to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations and maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.

Requirements

  • Valid Blue CSCS Card: Skilled Worker (Steel Fixing).
  • Full Tool Kit: Nips, reel, and all necessary hand tools for steel fixing.
  • Full PPE: Hard Hat, High-Visibility Vest/Jacket, Steel Toe Boots.
  • Proven Experience: Working on large-scale RC frames, civil engineering, or commercial projects.
