Set up and run multi point folder gluer machinery to produce high-quality postal packaging at target speeds with minimal waste. You'll work with a range of carton and envelope styles on a double day shift pattern, taking ownership for both output and line assistants.
Role details: Permanent role based in Huntingdon on a double-day shift pattern (one week early, one week late) across a 9-day fortnight, working 38.75 hours per week with 26 days' holiday plus bank holidays and a basic pay rate of £16.30-£20.35 per hour depending on performance and ability to run other machines.
The role: As a Machine Operator - Folder/Gluer you'll be responsible for the safe set up and running of a multi point folder gluer line, producing products to the correct quality at target speed with minimal waste. The role exists to ensure customer jobs are completed efficiently while meeting quality and OEE targets on the production lines. You'll also support the smooth running of the wider production area by keeping your line safe, clean and well maintained.
What you'll be doing:
- Setting up the folder gluer quickly to reach and maintain target speed and OEE for each job.
- Running the machine safely, using guards, stops, lock-out systems and following safe systems of work and risk assessments.
- Following job bag instructions and client-approved master samples accurately on every run.
- Identifying and escalating potential machine or material issues to the Production Manager and carrying out daily maintenance and TPM tasks.
- Working with different corrugated material types, recognising material-related problems and ensuring quality and minimal waste.
- Leading and directing assistants, feeders, stackers and packers while maintaining a clean, organised and safe 5S work area.
What we're looking for:
- Minimum of 2 years' gluing experience; experience with Vega, Signature, Bobst or Diana machines is preferred.
- Experience gluing 4 corner, bookwraps, crash lock cartons and corrugated envelopes is desirable.
- Proven ability to complete make-readies to a high standard that allows the machine to run at optimal speed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to establish root cause of issues.
- High attention to detail, accuracy and pride in the quality of your work.
- Flexible approach, willing to cover other machines, learn new processes and support other sections when required.
- Positive, motivated team player who can also work on your own initiative and stay calm under pressure.
- Good communication, observational skills and a good level of literacy and numeracy.
