An urgent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Consultant to support a major construction project on behalf of a specialist consultancy. This is an immediate requirement for a seasoned H&S professional who is comfortable operating in fast-paced, complex project environments and engaging with multiple contractors and stakeholders. Initial contract confirmed until end of August, with a strong likelihood of extension through to October.

The Opportunity

This is a project assurance-focused role rather than a traditional site safety advisor position. You’ll act as an independent health & safety presence across the project, providing oversight, assurance, and challenge to delivery teams, contractors, and supply chain partners to ensure high standards are maintained. The environment will involve major construction activity, contractor interfaces, and complex operational coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out regular health & safety inspections, reviews, and assurance checks
  • Monitoring contractor and subcontractor H&S performance
  • Tracking corrective actions and ensuring close-out to agreed standards
  • Supporting incident reviews, investigations, and lessons learned activity
  • Identifying emerging risk trends and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Leading or contributing to H&S meetings with key project stakeholders
  • Providing clear reporting on project safety performance
  • Overseeing high-risk works, contractor interfaces, and permit-controlled activities
  • Supporting safe delivery where construction interacts with live or sensitive environments
  • Driving continuous improvement across project safety performance

Candidate Profile

We’re keen to speak with professionals who have:

  • Strong construction health & safety consultancy or assurance experience
  • Experience working across complex multi-contractor projects
  • Confidence engaging with principal contractors, project teams, and supply chain partners
  • Strong audit / assurance / inspection capability
  • Experience with incident investigation and risk management
  • A pragmatic but credible communication style
  • Ability to start quickly

Ideal backgrounds may include:

  • Major construction
  • Infrastructure
  • Complex build environments
  • Critical projects
  • Consultancy-led H&S assurance

Package

  • £300–£350 per day
  • Outside IR35
  • Immediate start
  • Birmingham-based project
  • Contract secured initially until August, likely extending into October

If available immediately or at short notice, please get in touch for a confidential discussion.
