Search Consultancy are delighted to be supporting a fantastic company based in Kirkcaldy who are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join a small and supportive team. This is a hands‑on role responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, alongside broader finance support duties when required.
The role would suit someone who is detail‑driven, organised, and comfortable working to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment, with a strong appreciation for confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing weekly and monthly payrolls
- Managing third‑party deductions (including pensions and similar schemes)
- Maintaining accurate holiday and absence records
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with payroll legislation
- Completing RTI submissions
- Preparing annual payroll returns
- Performing balance sheet reconciliations
- Handling ad‑hoc payroll and finance queries
- Providing cover within the team during holiday and absence periods
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and automation
- Supporting wider finance and administrative duties as required
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a payroll or similar finance role
- Solid understanding of payroll legislation
- Strong Excel and general IT skills
- Highly methodical, accurate, and organised
- Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Clear and professional communication skills
- High levels of discretion and integrity
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Part‑qualification or progress toward a finance/payroll qualification is advantageous
