We are working with a well established SME based in Cumbernauld to recruit an Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful business in a broad, hands on role where you will become a key part of the leadership team and the main finance contact for the business.

Working closely with the Managing Director from day one, you will gain full exposure to all aspects of the business while taking ownership of the finance function. This is a varied position offering genuine autonomy, where no two days are the same. You will oversee everything from transactional finance through to management accounts, reporting and year end, while supporting the wider business with financial and operational matters.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in an SME environment, is proactive, practical and happy to get involved across all areas of finance. Whether you are qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience, attitude and the ability to take ownership are more important than qualifications.

Key responsibilities
  • Managing the day to day finance function, including sales and purchase ledger, invoicing, payments and bank reconciliations.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, journals and trial balance reviews.
  • Completing month end processes and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Preparing VAT returns and maintaining robust financial controls.
  • Supporting payroll using Sage Payroll.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register, stock reporting and intercompany accounts.
  • Assisting with year end accounts and liaising with external auditors.
  • Managing banking activities, insurance renewals and other finance administration.
  • Providing holiday cover across the finance team and supporting colleagues where required.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and bringing new ideas to the finance function.
About you
  • Previous experience in a varied, hands on finance role, ideally within an SME.
  • Comfortable managing the full finance process from invoice processing through to management accounts.
  • Experience with month end, reconciliations, VAT and financial reporting.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience using Navision would be advantageous.
  • Sage Payroll experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience accountants are all encouraged to apply.
  • A proactive, positive approach with the confidence to work independently and build strong relationships across the business.
What's on offer
  • Salary of £40,000 to £50,000 depending on experience.
  • 40 hour working week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm.
