We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Associate/ Senior Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to join our clients Building Services team. This is a leadership-focused role that combines technical delivery, client management, business development, and team leadership. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Mechanical Building Services design and project delivery, alongside proven experience managing client relationships, developing new business opportunities, and leading multidisciplinary teams. You will play a key role in shaping projects from feasibility through to construction while ensuring exceptional service delivery and commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain key client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities through networking, existing relationships, and tender submissions.
- Oversee project delivery from feasibility, concept and detailed design through to construction and handover.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with client requirements.
- Manage multiple projects across a variety of sectors simultaneously.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to engineering teams, supporting their professional development.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee and review technical mechanical design throughout all project phases.
- Attend and lead client, design, and project progress meetings.
- Conduct site inspections and provide guidance to project teams during construction stages.
- Monitor project profitability, resource allocation, and commercial performance.
- Support wider business objectives through strategic planning and collaboration with senior management.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years' experience within a UK Building Services Consultancy environment.
- Strong management and leadership background, with experience leading teams and managing project delivery.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing client relationships, with a client-focused approach.
- Proven business development experience, including identifying opportunities and winning work.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Progressing towards or already holding Chartered Engineer status through CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services design and integration with electrical, public health, and sustainability disciplines.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant British Standards, Building Regulations, and industry best practices.
- Commercially aware, with experience managing project budgets and profitability.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and requirements.
