The Opportunity
Search Consultancy's Construction and Trades Division is currently recruiting for an experienced, safety-conscious Telehandler Operator to join a major development project based in Berwick-upon-Tweed. This position offers an immediate start with a consistent, ongoing run of local work. We are seeking a reliable plant operator who can efficiently manage site materials, support subcontractors, and integrate seamlessly with the existing site management team to keep the project moving safely and on schedule.
Remuneration
CIS Rate: £21.00 per hour
Frequency: Paid every Friday, accurately and without hidden umbrella admin fees.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe Plant Operation: Safely and efficiently operating a telescopic handler across varied terrain to lift, transport, and position bulk building materials, heavy components, and site equipment.
- Loading & Offloading: Receiving incoming delivery wagons, checking delivery notes, and strategically offloading materials to designated storage areas to minimise double-handling.
- Trade Support: Distributing essential materials (including brick packs, timber, and steelwork) to scaffolding platforms and designated work faces to ensure various trades experience zero downtime.
- Daily Fleet Inspections: Conducting comprehensive pre-use vehicle checks (checking fluid levels, tire pressures, hydraulics, and safety alarms) every morning, recording findings in the site logbook, and reporting any defects immediately.
- H&S Compliance: Adhering strictly to site speed limits, designated traffic management routes, and lifting plans. Working in close coordination with a vehicle banksman when visibility is restricted.
Requirements
- CPCS or NPORS Certification: Must hold a valid CPCS card (Blue Competent Operator preferred) or an accredited NPORS card featuring the Telescopic Handler category.
- Medical Fitness: A current and valid Safety Critical Medical certificate (Fit for Work) is mandatory for this position and will be verified prior to deployment on site.
- Demonstrable Experience: A proven track record operating telehandlers on busy commercial, civil engineering, or housing developments.
- Full PPE: Possession of standard 5-point site protective equipment (Hard hat, high-vis jacket/vest, steel toe-cap boots, protective gloves, and safety glasses).
- Right to Work: Valid right to work within the United Kingdom.
