Looking for a Commissioning Tech to act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) / Nominated Designated Holder (NDH) who can take ownership of LV electrical safety on a live National Grid substation project. This is a key position acting as NDH, managing LV systems within a HV environment. This is ideal for someone with strong substation experience and confidence operating at that level.

The Role:

We are currently seeking an experienced NDH / Commissioning Technician to take responsibility for LV electrical safety systems on a major National Grid substation project. This role sits at the intersection of commissioning and electrical safety, with responsibility for managing LV systems within a live HV environment. It is ideally suited to a Commissioning Technician or Engineer with SAP authorisation, capable of taking ownership of LV safety on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as NDH (Nominated Designated Holder) for all LV systems on site
  • Carry out and support commissioning activities across LV systems
  • Manage LV isolations, permits, and switching activities
  • Oversee temporary and permanent LV supplies within the substation
  • Ensure compliance with all site safety rules and procedures
  • Interface with SAPs, Commissioning Engineers, and Site Teams
  • Support delivery of works in line with programme and project milestones

Requirements:

  • Strong experience as a Commissioning Technician / Engineer on HV substations
  • Proven capability managing or supporting LV systems within 132kV-400kV environments
  • Experience working on National Grid or DNO substation projects

Essential Certifications:

  • National Grid SAP (Senior Authorised Person) or equivalent (highly preferred)
  • NG Person or DNO equivalent
  • Relevant Electrical Qualifications

Desirable:

  • Previous experience operating as NDH or LV Responsible Person
  • Background in HV commissioning environments
  • Experience across NG, SSEN, or SPEN projects

Key Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of electrical safety and safe systems of work
  • Ability to operate both hands-on and in a supervisory capacity
  • Clear communication across commissioning and construction teams
  • Proactive and safety-led approach to delivery
