We are partnering with a growing, ambitious business to appoint a commercially minded Head of Finance. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a strategic leadership role where you'll move beyond traditional finance reporting to influence key commercial decisions, drive profitability, improve cash generation, and support future growth initiatives. This opportunity would suit a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong commercial finance experience, excellent stakeholder management skills, and a track record of partnering with senior leadership teams to deliver business growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key finance partner to the senior leadership team, bringing insight, challenge and commercial rigour to key decisions.
  • Develop and maintain financial models covering revenue scenarios, pricing, product mix, margin, cash flow and return on investment.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with the Head of Commercial.
  • Translate financial performance into clear, actionable insight that supports better pricing, investment and operational decisions.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve gross margin, net margin and cash generation across the business, tracking delivery against targets.
  • Lead financial evaluation, modelling and commercial analysis of strategic investment and growth opportunities.
  • Own the monthly management accounts and board pack, including meaningful commentary and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and improve financial controls.
  • Oversee preparation of annual statutory accounts, tax calculations and all regulatory and company obligations.
  • Ensure expenditure is tracked against budgets and that the business operates within agreed financial parameters.
  • Maintain and improve business process documentation across the finance function.
  • Oversee VAT, ITIP/NIC, employer returns and all statutory submissions.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the finance team creating clear development plans to support individual progress and succession.
  • Support the team in delivering on operational objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Foster a high-performance culture rooted in accuracy, ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the customer billing process, proactively resolving internal and external billing queries.
  • Take an active role in the billing platform transition, ensuring financial integrity throughout the migration.
  • Oversee debt collection procedures, ensuring aged debt is actively managed and minimised.
  • Build strong working relationships across the business, acting as a trusted finance partner to Sales, Operations and the wider leadership team.
  • Present financial performance, commercial insight and forward-looking analysis to the CEO and Board in a clear, accessible way.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, accountants and other financial advisors.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Strong commercial finance experience within an SME or growth business.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial modelling, forecasting and scenario planning.
  • Track record of business partnering with a leadership team and influencing decisions.
  • Experience leading and developing a finance team.
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members through professional qualifications as well would be desirable.
  • Experience in a telco, MSP, ISP or recurring revenue business would be desirable.
  • Ideally, experience managing billing systems or billing platform transitions.
  • Strong analytical capability with confidence using financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate financial information into clear insight.
