About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Civil Site Manager to join a critical National Grid substation project in Melksham. Operating as part of a major energy infrastructure framework, you will take full ownership of site operations, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, and programme. This role is ideal for a hands-on manager with a proven track record delivering civils works within the National Grid environment, particularly substation projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of site operatives, subcontractors, and all site activities
  • Development and implementation of safety documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, Site Quality Plans, RAMS
  • Conduct site inductions, Toolbox Talks, and daily briefings
  • Prepare and issue daily Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and authorise personnel to commence work
  • Produce and maintain site-specific Risk and Method Statements
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure timely completion
  • Carry out regular site inspections to monitor compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Liaise effectively with contractors and the principal contractor's site team
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and proactively resolve site issues or conflicts
  • Maintain a comprehensive site diary and high standard of project records

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Civils Person in Charge of Site Management (PCSM) for National Grid projects
  • Must hold NSI 6, NSI 8, HSG47 Substation, and Lifting Supervisor
  • Desirable: SSE authorisation to minimum CATIC level
  • Strong understanding of substation environments and associated civils delivery
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain programme discipline
