About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Civil Site Manager to join a critical National Grid substation project in Melksham. Operating as part of a major energy infrastructure framework, you will take full ownership of site operations, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, and programme. This role is ideal for a hands-on manager with a proven track record delivering civils works within the National Grid environment, particularly substation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of site operatives, subcontractors, and all site activities
- Development and implementation of safety documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, Site Quality Plans, RAMS
- Conduct site inductions, Toolbox Talks, and daily briefings
- Prepare and issue daily Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and authorise personnel to commence work
- Produce and maintain site-specific Risk and Method Statements
- Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure timely completion
- Carry out regular site inspections to monitor compliance with safety and quality standards
- Liaise effectively with contractors and the principal contractor's site team
- Attend weekly progress meetings and proactively resolve site issues or conflicts
- Maintain a comprehensive site diary and high standard of project records
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Civils Person in Charge of Site Management (PCSM) for National Grid projects
- Must hold NSI 6, NSI 8, HSG47 Substation, and Lifting Supervisor
- Desirable: SSE authorisation to minimum CATIC level
- Strong understanding of substation environments and associated civils delivery
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain programme discipline
