Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Principal Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level engineer looking to lead the design and delivery of complex projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

You will play a key role in managing project teams, overseeing technical design delivery, developing client relationships, and mentoring engineers while ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards.

Responsibilities Lead the design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.

Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and external stakeholders.

Produce and review detailed engineering calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.

Provide technical leadership across HVAC, public health, electrical, or mechanical building services disciplines.

Ensure compliance with current regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.

Attend client meetings and act as a technical lead throughout project lifecycles.

Support business development activities, including fee proposals, presentations, and bid submissions.

Manage project resources, budgets, and programme delivery.

Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.

Contribute to sustainability initiatives, low-carbon design strategies, and net-zero projects.

Requirements Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.

Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards Chartership.

Extensive building services design experience within a consultancy environment.

Strong technical knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant design standards.

Proven experience leading projects and managing client relationships.

Proficiency with industry-standard design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, IES, Hevacomp, Revit, Auto CAD, or similar.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver within programme deadlines.
