Overview

In this role you will manage a varied client portfolio, preparing accounts and tax work while supporting junior staff. You will deliver high-quality accounting, tax and compliance services and build trusted client relationships. You’ll work across accounts, tax and advisory tasks, using technology to improve workflows. This is a hands-on opportunity to take ownership, develop technical and client-management skills, and contribute to a collaborative practice. You will engage with clients directly, stay up-to-date on accounting standards, and help drive department improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Prepare corporation tax computations and returns
  • Prepare personal tax returns and related compliance
  • Manage workloads to meet budgets and deadlines
  • Identify and resolve accounting, tax and record-keeping issues
  • Liaise with clients to obtain information and explain technical matters
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Maintain accurate working papers and clear review points
  • Coach and review work of junior staff
  • Keep up to date with accounting standards, tax legislation and professional guidance
  • Collaborate with accounts, tax and other service lines
  • Use cloud bookkeeping and accounts production software effectively
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows and efficiency

Key requirements

  • Recognised accountancy qualification such as ICAS, ACCA or equivalent
  • Part-qualified or qualified-by-experience with relevant practice experience
  • Strong technical knowledge across accounts preparation, corporation tax, personal tax and VAT compliance
  • Ability to manage assignments from start to finish with limited supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of budgets and efficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident in dealing directly with clients and building professional relationships
  • Proactive approach with ability to identify issues and offer practical solutions
  • Experience coaching or reviewing junior staff
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Excel and Word)
  • Experience using cloud accounting (e.g., Xero)
  • Knowledge of IRIS or similar accounts production/tax software advantageous
