We are seeking an experienced General Foreman to oversee civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the Liverpool area. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site operations, supervising multiple work gangs, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and maintaining progress against programme requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and proactive individual with a strong background in civils, drainage, reinforced concrete (RC), earthworks, water, and highways projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate day-to-day site activities across civils, drainage, earthworks, RC, water, and highways projects.
  • Lead and motivate site operatives, subcontractors, and multiple work gangs to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Deliver daily site briefings, toolbox talks, and workforce inductions.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Monitor health, safety, quality, and environmental standards across the site and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Ensure all personnel are wearing appropriate PPE and following company procedures.
  • Record and report near misses, accidents, hazards, and changing site conditions to site management.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and programmes, ensuring works are delivered to the required standard.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, equipment, and materials to maintain productivity and programme targets.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and quality checks.
  • Liaise effectively with Site Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate site records, daily diaries, and inspection reports.
  • Review progress and identify solutions to site issues, ensuring minimal disruption to programme delivery.
  • Assist in developing and mentoring junior supervisors and operatives.
  • Submit workforce timesheets and other required project documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with project specifications, company procedures, and industry best practice.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a General Foreman within the civil engineering or construction sector.
  • Strong background in drainage, highways, earthworks, reinforced concrete, and general civils projects.
  • Excellent understanding of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple work fronts and subcontractors simultaneously.
  • Experience delivering daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organisational abilities.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of a project team.
  • Strong record-keeping and reporting capabilities.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on General Foreman who leads by example, maintains high safety standards, and has a proven track record of successfully delivering civils and infrastructure projects. You will be an effective communicator, capable of managing multiple gangs, solving problems on site, and supporting the development of less experienced team members while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
