Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Operative / Forklift Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for moving equipment and materials around the yard, operating forklifts to load and unload vehicles, and assisting with general tasks as required. This is a hands-on role, with an emphasis on safety, teamwork, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a forklift to load and unload materials and vehicles.
- Move equipment and metal materials around the yard to designated areas.
- Assist with sorting and storing metals for recycling.
- Perform regular checks on forklift and yard equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Follow health and safety regulations, ensuring the yard is maintained to a high standard.
- Support the yard team with general duties such as cleaning, maintenance, and organizing materials.
- Assist with the unloading of deliveries and sorting of incoming scrap materials.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Any other duties as requested by the Yard Supervisor or Management.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience operating forklifts in a similar industrial or recycling environment.
- Valid forklift license (Counterbalance/Reach).
- Previous experience in a yard or warehouse role, ideally within the recycling or manufacturing industry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Physically fit and capable of handling heavy lifting and manual tasks.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime when required.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience in metal recycling or waste management industries.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices within a yard or industrial environment.
