If you're an Electrical Fitter who enjoys building things properly, solving problems and seeing a project develop from drawings into a fully working machine, this could be a fantastic next move. We're recruiting for a growing engineering business looking to add another talented person to its workshop team. This isn't a production-line wiring job where you'll be repeating the same task all day. You'll be working on bespoke engineered equipment, getting involved in complete builds and working alongside mechanical, controls and engineering colleagues to take projects from initial assembly through testing and ultimately into operation. There's also the opportunity to get involved outside of the workshop, broaden your skills and develop into other areas as your experience grows. For someone who wants a long-term career rather than simply another fitting job, there's a lot to get excited about here.
What you'll be doing
You'll play an important role in the build and testing of new machinery, including:
- Wiring complete machines and equipment from engineering drawings
- Building and wiring electrical assemblies and panels
- Installing sensors and electrical components
- Working with pneumatic systems alongside the electrical build
- Carrying out electrical testing, inspections and fault finding
- Identifying and resolving issues during the build and testing process
- Working closely with controls engineers during testing and commissioning
- Supporting modifications and development work
- Getting involved with customer acceptance and final testing
- Providing practical feedback to engineers to make future builds easier and more effective
There will also be opportunities to support installation and commissioning work at customer sites, giving you the chance to see the equipment you've helped build operating in the real world.
What are we looking for?
We're much more interested in your practical ability and attitude than finding someone who ticks every possible box. You may already be an Electrical Fitter, Electrical Machine Builder, Assembly Technician, Electrical Technician or similar. Alternatively, you could have a relevant electrical engineering qualification alongside good practical experience and be looking for somewhere you can really develop. You'll ideally bring:
- Practical electrical wiring and assembly experience
- The ability to confidently work from engineering drawings
- Experience working on machinery, automated equipment or similar engineered systems
- Good electrical fault-finding skills
- Some understanding of pneumatic systems
- A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
- A practical, problem-solving mindset
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider engineering team
Some occasional travel may be required to support installations or projects at customer sites.
Where could this take you?
This is one of the biggest attractions of the opportunity. If you want to remain a highly skilled workshop-based Electrical Fitter, there's plenty here to keep you challenged. But if you're someone who wants more, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your experience. That could mean greater exposure to testing, fault finding, commissioning, site installation, customer-facing engineering or wider technical responsibilities as you develop. The business wants people who can grow with it, so someone who comes in with the right attitude, shows what they're capable of and wants to progress will have genuine opportunity to build a varied and interesting career. If you're looking at your current role thinking "I could do more than this", we'd particularly like to hear from you. Apply now for a confidential conversation.
