What you’ll be doing
The Engineering Director is a member of the executive team and is accountable for engineering delivery and assurance across the company, contributing to the overall company success, strategy and policy making. The role reports to the Managing Director.
You’ll ensure that our engineers have the right tools, procedures, skills and capabilities to deliver quality engineering output, and oversee engineering delivery and governance across all aspects of our business.
Beyond the day to day, you’ll take a forward-facing approach, working to develop our engineers, identifying skills and training needs as our business evolves and grows. Your responsibilities will include:
- Direct and lead the engineering function to ensure that applicable engineering outputs are delivered on-time, on-cost & on-quality and provide the engineering, skills and capabilities required by the business
- Ensuring that company engineering processes and ways of working are proportionate, effective, and efficient.
- Implement engineering policies, procedures & tools to ensure that best practice and consistency is achieved in support of company objectives
- Oversee planning, allocation and utilisation of engineering personnel into respective business-areas, ensuring that SEA has the right skills, capabilities and tools required to meet its objectives.
- Maintain working relationships with SEA directors, external stakeholders and industry bodies in support of company objectives.
The skills you need
You’ll be an experienced engineering leader, with a proven track record of delivering at Director level. You’ll bring extensive experience of having led large engineering organisations across varied disciplines, with a focus on people, skills, processes, quality assurance, and culture. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Extensive engineering leadership experience in a business operating within the defence/security industry.
- Direct experience of leading engineering functions >250 individuals.
- Knowledge and experience of implementing contemporary engineering and business assurance best-practice and techniques.
- Excellent leadership, inter-personal, organizational and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to be hands-on where required.
- Energy, passion, and commitment to support a dynamic business.
