This role will provide hands‑on technical support throughout the engineering lifecycle, working closely with Engineers to enable successful prototype development, design verification and validation. Electronic and Electrical Lab Technician will be based at our Barnstaple site. This role does require being onsite 5 days a week. The salary for this role is up to £35k, depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support engineers in prototype assembly, rework, and repair to production standards
  • Assist with design verification and validation activities, including functional and environmental testing
  • Contribute to debugging and fault‑finding during system integration and development phases
  • Design, build, assemble and set‑to‑work test fixtures and custom jigs to support engineering activities
  • Prepare and set up test equipment for electrical, electronic, and system‑level testing
  • Participate in external testing activities, such as EMC and environmental compliance testing
  • Provide input on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Excellence (DFX) during early design stages
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring readiness for engineering tasks across SEA Engineering lab locations
  • Manage lab inventory of components, tools, and consumables, ensuring availability for projects across SEA Engineering lab locations
  • Uphold health, safety, and ESD compliance within the laboratory environment
  • Document test setups, procedures, and results accurately for traceability and reporting

The skills you need:

  • Skilled in assembling, repairing, and reworking electronic prototypes to production standards
  • Ability to prepare test equipment, perform functional/environmental testing, and troubleshoot during system integration
  • Competence in maintaining lab equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring health, safety, and ESD compliance
  • IPC certification
  • IPC‑A‑610 soldering and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 cable assembly certification would be desirable
  • Experience with Altium Designer and Zuken E3 for schematic interpretation and basic tasks would be beneficial
  • Ability to provide input on design‑for‑manufacturability and design‑for‑excellence during early design stages
