Are you eager to make a difference in wildlife conservation and care? Join the Cornish Seal Sanctuary as a Trainee Animal Care Specialist and get hands-on experience in the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of grey seal pups and other marine life.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist with daily animal husbandry and the care of resident wildlife, including seal pups and marine mammals.
- Contribute to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts for grey seal pups in distress.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of animal enclosures, plant systems and life support equipment.
- Educate the public on the importance of wildlife conservation and the animals in our care.
- Support the team with husbandry training, enrichment, and the development of animal welfare protocols.
- Intensive, hands-on training in wildlife management and animal rehabilitation.
- Develop key skills in husbandry, plant maintenance, and wildlife health.
- Contribute to meaningful conservation projects while working in a rewarding and supportive team environment.
This is a full-time, 12-month contracted role with the potential to move into an Animal Care Specialist role. This will include working weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications & Experience:- Experience in animal care or wildlife rehab (paid or voluntary).
- Studying towards or holding an animal-related qualification.
- Confident with animal husbandry, feeding, cleaning and welfare checks.
- Strong team player with a proactive attitude.
- Good communicator, comfortable engaging with the public.
- Basic understanding of life support systems or willing to learn.
- Flexible with hours and happy to work outdoors in all weathers.
- Passionate about conservation and sustainability.
- Must live within 20 minutes of the centre.
