In this role you will provide strategic financial insight and challenge to senior stakeholders, focusing on the Engineering directorate to drive performance and inform decisions. You will own budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning, ensuring resources align with priorities and deliver value for money. As a trusted advisor, you translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations and support business objectives. You will lead, coach and develop a finance team, fostering high performance and capability growth. Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop Assistant Management Accountant to enable high performance
  • Own and deliver budgets, forecasts and long-term financial plans for the directorate
  • Provide strategic financial insight and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Lead finance-led business change and process improvements
  • Lead period-end and year-end performance management, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Deliver annual business planning, rolling forecasts and management reporting
  • Support business cases, capital investment decisions and major projects
  • Ensure data integrity and governance through controls and stakeholder collaboration
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting, planning, and use of technology and data-driven insights
  • Provide proactive financial guidance to Directors and senior stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Previous line management experience
  • Recognised accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent with substantial business partnering experience
  • Experience partnering with directors and executive stakeholders to influence decisions
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear recommendations for finance and non-finance audiences
  • Constructive challenger to drive accountability and value for money
  • Commercial mindset with ability to balance operational, financial and strategic priorities
  • Experience leveraging technology, automation and new ways of working for better reporting and planning
  • Experience in engineering or infrastructure in a transport environment is advantageous
  • Experience with Oracle and IBM TM1 or equivalent forecasting systems is desirable
