SDR is looking for caring, compassionate and reliable Support Workers to join our supported living service in Worthing.
You will be supporting an individual with autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs associated with DiGeorge syndrome, and epilepsy. We are looking for people who are patient, attentive and committed to providing safe, consistent and person-centred support.
Previous care experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from people who have the right attitude, a genuine passion for supporting others and a willingness to learn. Full induction, specialist training and ongoing support will be provided to help you develop the knowledge and skills needed for the role.
This is more than simply providing care. You will help the individual build confidence, develop independence, enjoy their interests and achieve goals that are important to them.
What you'll be doing
Every day is different, but your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the individual with daily routines and developing independent living skills.
Providing safe, appropriate support in relation to epilepsy and mental health needs, following the individual's care plans, risk assessments and specialist guidance.
Building a trusting relationship based on kindness, dignity and respect.
Supporting the individual to access the community, attend appointments and enjoy activities they love.
Encouraging choice, independence, confidence and personal achievement.
Promoting emotional wellbeing and helping the individual work towards personal goals.
Working alongside colleagues, family members and healthcare professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
Maintaining accurate records and following relevant care procedures.
You’ll get to know the individual and help create an environment where they feel safe, valued, listened to and empowered to live as independently as possible.
About you
You don't need years of experience to apply. We're looking for people who genuinely care about supporting others and are willing to learn.
You’ll be:
Caring, compassionate and patient.
Calm, observant and responsible when responding to unexpected situations.
Willing to learn about epilepsy and mental health needs and how to provide safe, appropriate support.
Committed to following care plans, seizure management guidance and relevant procedures.
Reliable, attentive and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Respectful of individual choice, dignity and independence.
Positive, approachable and passionate about helping others achieve their potential.
Willing to undertake specialist training and ongoing professional development.
Experience supporting individuals with epilepsy is an advantage, but it is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the right values, a responsible approach and a genuine willingness to learn.
