As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design - turning research ideas into detailed designs for production
- Re-engineering designs to make them more production friendly to gain valuable manufacturing time
- Reporting - writing or presenting engineering reports on various areas of design
- Producing production specifications and engineering drawings
- Gaining knowledge of all relevant trailer legislation and applying to designs
- Gaining knowledge in all good practice standards with respect to trailer safety and design
- Mentoring junior design engineers
- Sharing your design experience in design review meetings to ensure the customer gets the best solution
- Applying Continuous Improvement methodology to your working practices and have an appreciation of Lean Manufacturing principles
- Much of your work will be computer-based, working in the engineering office
- You may be required to do some travelling to meet sales personnel/customers
Requirements
- Essential
- Educated to degree standard in a relevant engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3 years industrial design experience
- Experience in use of 2&3D CAD software (ideally the Autodesk products)
- Experience in use of MS office products
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong team player, approachable and demonstrating a flexible style to achieving a project plan
- Practical hands-on approach
- Willingness to work outside normal hours to complete jobs
- An awareness of the cost impact of design ideas
- Excellent communication skills
- Produce high quality designs consistently
- Be honest, punctual and dependable
- A sound knowledge of in-house computer systems required for your role
- A good understanding of design stress/loading calculations and be familiar with FEA
- A good understanding of fatigue stress and induced stress
- Have a good grasp of engineering and design principles
- An understanding of SDCs manufacturing processes and construction methods for trailers or similar heavy engineering applications
- A comprehensive awareness of the customers implied and stated needs
Hours of work: Monday- Thursday 08.00am-17.30pm, Friday 08.00am- 12.30pm
