An Assistant Manager at Scudamores works to ensure the successful day-to-day oversight and delivery of our customer facing operations. You will achieve this through effective coaching and performance management, upholding operational standards and optimising the use of resources to meet departmental goals. An essential component of your remit will be to drive exceptional standards of safety, customer service and presentation as a key part of delivering our visitor experience aims.

You will help take our business forward by:

  • Driving sales and managing our daily operations.
  • Managing, motivating and developing our team of cashiers and river tour guides.
  • Ensuring an exceptional visitor experience.
  • Delivering on performance targets.
  • Working in line with operational budgets.
  • Efficient and timely resource management.

You will also have the opportunity to regularly interact and engage with senior management where your input will help inform strategic planning for the business.

What’s the package?

  • Remuneration of up to £41,203 per annum (£34,453.13 salary + up to £6,750 bonus) per annum inclusive of performance bonuses which are based upon individual and Company performance.
  • Full-time role, working five days out of seven including weekends and public holidays. Shift patterns are seasonally flexible.
  • 28 days holiday per year.
  • 2-year fixed term in the first instance, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

About You

An Assistant Manager serving Scudamores is always working on behalf of our customers by working together with other team members. You will be able to demonstrate how your attributes, experience and skills make you the ideal person to ensure your team provide the highest level of customer experience whilst successfully achieving challenging financial and personnel-driven key result areas. In particular you will be able to evidence:

  • Experience of leading and motivating a team.
  • Prior experience of working in a customer-facing sales environment.
  • A passion for, and demonstrable experience of, delivering exceptional customer care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with an ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesise information to help make informed decisions or solve problems effectively.
  • Experience of coaching or performance management, including offering constructive feedback.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate, empathise and collaborate.
  • Effective time management skills, including an ability to delegate.

What would really help?

  • Prior experience of managing a sales team.
  • Visitor attraction, hospitality industry or retail experience.
  • Knowledge of operational or sales management, preferably within the commercial sector.
  • Strong situational awareness and adaptability in a dynamic working environment.

Special demands of the role

The nature of our business requires our staff to be comfortable working on and around water. This role is physically demanding and often requires you to remain on your feet throughout the working day, which requires an appropriate level of fitness. The Company is scheduled to open 364 days per year and our staffing needs are usually greatest at weekends and holiday periods. This role therefore requires flexibility with regards to work hours and availability to work most weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
