Position: Punting Tour Guides

Salary Details: Potential for ÂŁ120-240 per day - A combination of hourly pay, fixed rate per tour & commission.

This application is for prospective River Tour Guides available to begin working in March, April and May. For those candidates wishing to start from June onwards you are welcome to apply but please make your availability clear on the application.

Founded in 1910, Scudamore's is Cambridge's premier punt tour and boat hire company. We are seeking lively, outgoing and aspirational people to promote and deliver our award‑winning punt tours of the College Backs. No punting, guiding or sales experience is necessary as full training is provided. We’re open all year round and operate a rolling recruitment programme, with regular training courses running each month. Flexible working pattern to fit your lifestyle, both full‑time and part‑time roles are available.

What’s involved?

  • Offering effective and courteous ticket sales within a competitive environment.

What’s the package?

Potential for £120-240 per day, offering a combination of an hourly rate, fixed rate per tour and uncapped commission. You will also keep all your tips from customers. Our paid training course is the gold standard for punting operators in Cambridge. Ongoing mentoring is available from our dedicated training team. 28 days paid holiday (or pro‑rata equivalent for part‑time workers) per annum and pension contributions. Career opportunities and development: cross‑departmental and management positions open on a yearly basis. Regular social events including parties and staff award nights. Based at premium Cambridge city‑centre locations.

Hours of Work

Flexible working, with both full‑time and part‑time roles available. You are in charge of your work pattern and are free to work around other commitments.

You enjoy engaging with people and have an excellent command of spoken English. You're self‑motivated and keen to learn, with the ability to absorb and share knowledge. Physical activity complements your lifestyle and you are comfortable with working outdoors and around water.

What would also help?

  • Prior experience of working in a customer‑facing role.
  • Whilst we do not expect you to have prior knowledge of local history, an interest or research prior to interview is always appreciated.
  • Good availability to work on weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

You must be comfortable working around water and be able to swim.

Our core operating hours are from 08:30 – Dusk daily, so evening working is required at certain times of year.
