Founded in 1910, Scudamore's is Cambridge's premier punt tour and boat hire company. We are seeking lively, outgoing and aspirational people to promote and deliver our award-winning punt tours of the College Backs. No punting, guiding or sales experience is necessary as full training is provided. We’re open all year round and operate a rolling recruitment programme, with regular training courses running each month. Flexible working pattern to fit your lifestyle, both full-time and part-time roles are available.
As a River Tour Guide at Scudamore’s you’ll act as an ambassador for Cambridge, giving a warm, considerate and attentive welcome to our visitors. Your duties will be varied but ultimately your role is about four main things:
- Delivering a memorable punt tour that is informative, inspiring and entertaining.
- Offering effective and courteous ticket sales within a competitive environment.
- Providing a timely, consistently high-quality service in line with our values and standards.
- Maintaining a safe working environment for all.
Potential for £120-240 per day, offering a combination of an hourly rate, fixed rate per tour and uncapped commission. You will also keep all your tips from customers. Our paid training course is the gold standard for punting operators in Cambridge. Ongoing mentoring is available from our dedicated training team. 28 days paid holiday (or pro rata equivalent for part-time workers) per annum and pension contributions. Career opportunities and development: cross-departmental and management positions open on a yearly basis. Regular social events including parties and staff award nights. Based at premium Cambridge city-centre locations.
Hours of Work: Flexible working, with both full-time and part-time roles available. You are in charge of your work pattern and are free to work around other commitments.

You enjoy engaging with people and have an excellent command of spoken English. You’re self-motivated and keen to learn, with the ability to absorb and share knowledge. Physical activity complements your lifestyle and you are comfortable with working outdoors and around water.
What would also help? Prior experience of working in a customer-facing role. Good availability to work on weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.
Special demands of the role: You must be comfortable working around water and able to swim.
Please note that we may interview shortlisted candidates at the earliest opportunity and the vacancies may be filled at any time. Our core operating hours are from 08:30 – Dusk daily, so evening working is required at certain times of year.
