General Responsibilities

The Tunnel (TBM) Engineering Lead for Northolt Tunnels East is responsible for the engineering delivery of Northolt Tunnels East. The Tunnel Engineering Manager ensures the works are technically correct, assured, and coordinated between disciplines to facilitate delivery. They must collaborate closely with all other technical leads and relevant operational leads in TSDU with the aim of a delivery of the asset to the right quality.

This is a technical management role, reporting to the Tunnels Team Engineering Lead.

Role Responsibility

  • Leading on tunnelling related technical issues above and beyond production related, regarding the bored NTE tunnels and cross passages as required, inclusive of buildability input.
  • Providing independent technical review of documents and proposals
  • Facilitating the necessary forums for the exchange of good practice, including internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Support to the Lead Designer function, as a delegated representative in the areas for review of Assurance documentation
  • Meeting with 3rd stakeholders to discuss technical issues with the tunnelling works
  • Compiling the project report for each tunnel drive
  • Fostering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Championing Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Lead compliance with the CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Ensure the right, collaborative behaviours within the team
  • Prioritise appropriate and integrated change control

  • Educated to degree or higher and hold, or be working towards, relevant professional qualification
  • Sustained Continued Professional Development
  • Technical management experience (essential)
  • TBM Tunnelling experience (essential)
  • TBM Engineering / Design Management experience (essential)
  • Management of ground movement experience (desirable)
  • Tunnel design experience (desirable)
  • Temporary works experience (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills
  • An understanding of Engineering Principles and knowledge of the relevant tunnelling techniques.
