We have a vacancy for a Senior Engagement Manager within the Consents & Engagement team here at SCS JV, supporting the Euston delivery team.

About the role:

Working within one of the project’s three delivery units, the Senior Engagement Manager will report directly to the Consents & Engagement Area Lead (C&EAL) for the delivery unit and oversee a team of engagement professionals. The role will work closely with the engagement team, asset delivery leads, works package managers and consents specialists to achieve our objectives, which are to:

  • achieve consents in time to start works and ensure all works comply with agreed consents and commitments
  • genuinely involve and inform our stakeholders and local communities as we design and construct our works
  • help neighbouring residents and stakeholder groups understand our works and leave a positive legacy.

The Senior Engagement Manager is responsible for ensuring high-quality, consistent and accurate communications to a range of stakeholders through a variety of channels. The role may be required to deputise for the C&EAL for reporting purposes, establishing good working practices with senior delivery directors, core services directors and the project client. With an understanding of contractual and commercial processes, the role may be required to represent the project in negotiations with third parties.

With a thorough understanding of our works, stakeholders, programme, and our obligations under the HS2 Act and the main works civils contract, the Senior Engagement Manager will provide timely information for reporting and internal business operations. They will provide advice and support to the broader team to ensure we manage risk and meet our objectives.

The role will work closely with the SCS Consents & Engagement enabling function team, who develop and implement project-wide strategies and consistent processes, provide oversight and compliance assurance, and also provide support and guidance to the embedded Consents & Engagement teams. The Senior Engagement Manager will represent SCS at various client, partner and external forums, proactively managing the organisation’s and the client’s reputation within the community.

Role Responsibility

  • Develop, deliver, maintain and report on local engagement strategies and delivery plans, key messaging and communications, events and other activities
  • Manage and develop a team to engage effectively with local community members, charities, businesses and schools – and coordinate all engagement with the broader team
  • Oversee the enquiries and complaints management process to ensure it is delivered in a timely and consistent manner, meeting the contractual requirements
  • Manage the delivery of community investment commitments and project legacy requirements
  • Working closely with consents specialist colleagues, ensure that engagement with all key consenting stakeholders is managed and coordinated to ensure delivery of consents requirements to meet the project programme
  • Monitor and support compliance with all Undertakings & Assurances under the HS2 Act and main works civils contract
  • Meet our strategic key performance indicators for enquiry response times and engagement plans
  • Act as deputy for the Consents & Engagement Area Lead as required
  • Demonstrate team leadership in line with project values and behaviours
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Detailed understanding of high-profile infrastructure projects and/or a strong communications and engagement background in a highly regulated sector.
  • Strategic planning and management ability with demonstrated experience leading a team in the development and delivery of external engagement programmes
  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills, ensuring consistency, relevance and accuracy across all channels. Coach team where required to achieve this standard
  • Proficiency in MS Excel skills and experience in, or ability to learn, preferred data and task management platforms such as MS Planner, Sharepoint lists and PowerBI or similar
  • Experience with meeting contractual responsibilities and strategic key performance indicators

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
