Supporting both the Commercial Director & Commercial Lead, to provide the link between the Asset Commercial delivery leads and MEP commercial leads to ensure commercial operations are kept consistent throughout. This role requires excellent communication and customer-facing skills, along with working as part of a team promoting our JV culture and values. The successful candidate will consider problems as a challenge, collecting information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining the root cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem.

Role Responsibility

  • Operations commercial manager, responsible for the management and commercial delivery of the MEP element of the Works.
  • Prepare and support the MEP function in the production of monthly reporting data and liaising with the Project Control Team.
  • Develops and maintains risk avoidance technical.
  • Assisting with the management of change including active engagement and avoidance of disputes.
  • Leading and liaising with area commercial leads ensuring commercial teams are functional.
  • Leading the monthly cost and performance reviews for each of the Enabling Function.
  • Development of the MEP Functions specific cost and performance reporting and tracking as well as leading the resource and subcontract/agency suppliers.
  • Prepare & support the MEP in the 6-monthly production of the BUF as defined under the Contract, making sure we are in line with the BUF Production.
  • Ensure contract administration is kept in line with SCS principles, including the close of NCE.
  • Liaise with Project Controls to ensure data is kept up to date on commercial activities.
  • Liaising with the area teams in relation to the monthly supplier AfP and its production, challenge, and issue.
  • Manage disallowed costs, implementing mitigation measures where applicable.
  • Management of the staff organograms and ATR’s related to these roles and the coordination of this against the staff budget.
  • Leading the coordination of the Cost Verification Framework and liaising with core in relation to this and getting the data from the assets to answer any queries on the CVF.
  • Lead in the risk drawdown process with Project Controls.

The Ideal Candidate

  • RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent but not a must).
  • Full Membership of RICS or CICES (or equivalent but not a must).
  • Post-graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with demonstrable track record of achievement.
  • Has a proven track record of managing large commercial teams in complex environments.
  • Has a proven track record of delivering complex schemes from inception to final account.
  • Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
  • Extensive experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence & the facilitation of collaborative solutions.
  • Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and associated change programmes.
  • Confidence and ability to assert influence.
  • A creative, strategic and innovative approach to problem-solving.

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high-speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
