Role Overview: As a Project Manager for Routeway & Asset Protection, you will take full responsibility for managing resources and leading construction and asset protection activities across the tunnelling routes from Euston to West Ruislip. You will drive delivery to meet programme milestones, protect third‑party and HS2 assets, and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements. Working closely with the Routeway Lead and Engineering Managers, you will oversee delivery teams, subcontractors, technical assurance and commercial controls, ensuring safe, efficient and collaborative progression of works.
- Leadership & Team Management: Recruit, lead, manage, supervise, train and mentor construction and asset protection teams to optimise capability and performance. Drive team development and foster a high‑performance culture focused on safety, technical excellence and collaboration.
- Programme, Design & Technical Management: Review contractual agreements and develop working methods, processes, procedures, programmes and forecast costs with the Senior Project Manager, Agents, Works Superintendent and subcontractors/suppliers. Develop, monitor and review delivery programmes and budgets; assess productivity against planned, take corrective actions and report changes. Lead procurement strategies, establish subcontract conditions and manage subcontract accounts with Commercial teams.
- Delivery & Assurance: Ensure timely requisitioning and specification of resources to avoid delays to the construction and mitigation programme. Communicate effectively with Technical Assurance, QA and Commercial teams regarding non‑conformances, instructions or client‑led changes; maintain accurate records for additional works. Ensure inspection and test plans (ITPs), risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed, approved and adhered to. Produce monthly reports including financial forecasts, cost controls and progress summaries.
- Stakeholder & Client Management: Act as the key point of contact for clients on project and asset protection progress. Interface with internal and external stakeholders including HS2, TfL, Network Rail and local authorities to secure approvals and ensure compliant delivery. Support pre‑construction and planning activities to ensure readiness for delivery. Report programme and progress to SLT and Client.
- Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability Responsibilities: Demonstrate exemplary Health & Safety leadership and embed a safety‑first culture. Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability policies, processes and statutory requirements.
Qualifications: Degree in Civil Engineering or an allied subject, or HND in Civil Engineering with relevant vocational training. Relevant CSCS Card. Health, Safety and Environmental management training. PTS (Personal Track Safety). Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (preferred, not essential).
Technical & Professional Skills: Strong project management capability with experience in civil, rail, tunnelling or utility projects. Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary construction teams. Understanding of engineering principles across civil, structural and utility disciplines. Knowledge of construction contract law and NEC contract forms. Extensive knowledge of construction techniques, asset protection methodologies and best practice. Competent in MS Word, Excel, Project and document control systems. Highly organised, adaptable and capable of managing multiple workstreams. Commitment to safety, quality, sustainability and continuous improvement.

About the Company: The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin‑bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
