Responsibilities:
- Reviewing permanent works design and ensuring appropriate input from the construction team during the design.
- Supporting the interfaces between construction and design during the construction phase by reviewing key RFIs, approving proposed design changes following the TQ/Field Change process, and implementing measures to avoid future non‑conformances.
- Identifying any changes during construction that could impact the temporary or permanent works design and controlling that change.
- Overseeing temporary works planning, coordination, design, installation, use and removal, including review and approval of significant temporary works design and method statements.
- Providing support to the construction assurance process managed by the Assurance team.
- Assisting in the production, review, approval and implementation of ITPs produced by the construction team and managed by the Quality team.
- Assisting in the timely identification of temporary works requirements, solution development and selection.
- Advising the permanent works designer on temporary conditions or loads that should be considered in the permanent design.
- Ensuring temporary works design requirements are sufficiently identified, reviewed and safely implemented.
- Checking proposed changes in materials or construction against the original design specifications and taking appropriate action.
- Undertaking constructability reviews and providing input on works, reviewing ITPs, WPPs and NCRs.
- Providing technical support to the construction delivery teams.
- Mentoring site engineers, promoting work‑face learning and professional development.
- Understanding the Client and Joint Venture Partners' environment, sustainability policies, processes and statutory requirements and ensuring their implementation on the project.
Qualifications:
- Chartered (or near Chartered) member of the ICE or equivalent (desirable).
- Engineering or Design experience (desired).
- Construction experience (essential).
- Temporary works experience (desirable).
- Understanding and application of COPs and HSWA 1974.
- Understanding and application of the CDM Regulations 2015.
- Knowledge of civil engineering structures and earthworks.
- Appreciation of working in close proximity to live rail infrastructure.
About the Project:
The role will work on the HS2 project, the UK’s new high‑speed rail network. It will support the HS2 Main Civils Contracts delivered by the Skanska | Costain | STRABAG SCS Joint Venture, which includes Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8 billion, with works due for completion in 2025. The scope includes twin‑bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
