Assist the Planning Manager to develop and monitor the programme, ensuring compliance with the SCS planning standards and HS2 requirements to provide a safe, efficient and cost-effective programme meeting all required access dates, milestones and key dates. Reporting to the Planning Manager/Senior Planning Manager.
More specifically, this Senior Planner role sits within the Tunnels and Routeway Delivery Unit within SCS. The role will include scheduling and monitoring of Asset Protection, Utilities and I&M tasks along the routeway and requires close liaison with the delivery and construction team. The role will also require development of the permanent services and connections programme elements.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist the Planning Manager in development of the programme structure, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), calendars and dates to be used by SCS, aligned with the Cost Break Down Structure (CBS) and Employer's data dictionary.
- Help to develop material & resource loaded construction programmes in accordance to the required delivery milestones.
- Ensuring the Construction programme meets all required access dates, milestones and key dates in compliance with the Employer’s Planning requirements, contract data and works information.
- Contribute to assessment of programme risks and programme risk analysis, including development and implementation of mitigation measures.
- Interfacing with other functional teams including, but not limited to: BIM Team, design team, estimation and construction execution.
- Adhering to BIM team requirements and integration of the construction programme into the BIM model.
- Progress monitoring and regular updating of the construction programme during Stage Two, including forecasting of potential problem areas and proposing mitigation measures to the Project Manager.
- Interface control meetings with other assets along the route of the tunnel.
- Cooperation with the Project Controls Manager, Reporting Manager and Change Management in all related construction programme matters.
- Develop monitoring KPIs against the project baselines and track weekly quantity performance.
- Record as-built data of planned versus actual productivity rates.
- Understand and advise on critical paths to Key Dates, Sectional Completion Dates and other key project milestone dates. Identify near critical paths and float path analysis.
- Develop Summary schedules and provide extracts from P6 as requested.
- Liaise with the client’s construction planning team, stakeholders and with other works packages to communicate the SCS Construction Planning approach and to ensure sharing of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Pursuing excellence and continuous improvement of the SCS construction planning approach, modification of standard processes and procedures for effective and continuous improvement.
- Assessment of change and PMI’s and communication of impacts as required.
- Appraisal, review and assessment of supply chain programmes and inclusion in main programme as required.
- Maintain short and medium term programmes to ensure main programme objectives are met.
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or an appropriate professional qualification.
- Prior experience in planning function in civil engineering projects.
- Good understanding and experience of administering NEC form of Contracts.
- Tunnel Civil Engineering background and previous experience in I&M, Asset Protection and Utilities management.
- Knowledge of the development and implementation of asset structures, planning standards, WBS and planning processes.
- Strong competence in Primavera P6 and Tilos.
- Knowledge of Safety, Environment and Risk Management.
- Proactive approach and strong collaborative and communication skills.
- CSCS card.
