Senior IT Engineers within our IT & Digital team here at SCS Railways. We're looking for an experienced and highly capable Senior IT Engineer to join our IT Operations team. This is a hands-on role for a technical generalist with strong Microsoft expertise, capable of supporting, improving and administering a broad Microsoft technology estate. You'll act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues, providing support across 1st to 3rd line activities while driving service improvements, automation and technical change. You'll work across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and related technologies, supporting users, systems and business initiatives whilst helping us reduce manual processes, improve data quality and increase operational efficiency. This role will be based in the project office for a minimum of 3 days per week.
Role Responsibility
- Act as a senior technical specialist across the Microsoft technology estate, providing expert support and guidance.
- Own and resolve complex technical issues across 1st to 3rd line support.
- Design, implement and support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and related technologies.
- Deliver automation, system integrations and service improvements using APIs, scripting and modern Microsoft tooling.
- Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the IT Operations function.
- Support Azure DevOps sprint delivery through accurate planning, estimation and execution of agreed work.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Significant experience providing 3rd line support within a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive.
- Expertise in Microsoft Entra ID, including identity management, MFA and Conditional Access.
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking and infrastructure, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and VPN technologies.
- Experience integrating systems using APIs, automation platforms and Microsoft identity services.
- Experience working within ITIL-based service management environments.
Desirable:
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator, Enterprise Administrator, Identity & Access Administrator or similar).
- Experience with Microsoft Defender technologies.
- Experience using Azure DevOps or similar agile work management tools.
- Exposure to Power Platform, Power Automate, Power BI or Microsoft Copilot.
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract.
