We are seeking a self-motivated, curious and organised advisor to provide support to the Environment & Sustainability team on data management and reporting.

For this position we need someone with a flair to “connect the dots” between different data types from different sources and systems, streamline data collection processes and data structuring and reporting workflows, integrate and automate procedures, perform appropriate quality assurance on the information, identify gaps and/or anomalies, organise, structure and combine the data to provide meaningful visualisations and reporting, fit for different audiences. Analysing and interpreting the data and drawing useful conclusions with the support of the more experienced members of the Environmental Sustainability team is another important part of the role.

This position will contribute to the successful delivery of the HS2 Main Works Civils Contract during construction and handover phases through supporting the SCS Environmental Sustainability strategy and targets as well the maintenance and development of the relevant SCS I Environmental Management Systems such as ISO 14001:2015, PAS2080:2023 Carbon Management, ISO50001 Energy Management, BREEAM requirements, and further client standards and joint venture partner expectations.

The successful candidate will play a key role in environmental sustainability reporting, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role will involve working closely with operational teams, technical specialists and supply chain partners to improve environmental data and reporting accuracy and quality as business efficiencies through effective use of data and business intelligence tools, including Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage environmental reporting requirements across the project, under the guidance of Env Leads and in collaboration with the wider Env and project team.
  • Collect, validate, structure and analyse relevant data from site teams and supply chain partners.
  • Monitor and audit data quality to ensure consistency, completeness, accuracy and overall relevance.
  • Produce dashboards, graphs and reports using Power BI and other reporting tools to support project decision-making.
  • Interpret complex datasets using BI and reporting tools. Analyse trends and identify opportunities for performance improvement, providing benchmarking and performance analysis where required.
  • Support on-site environment teams with operational data and document management, including but not limited to reporting and uploading of observations and incidents, waste and material data management, and finalizing documents for submission through the document management system.
  • Support environmental data reporting improvements and implement efficiencies across the contract.
  • Develop robust data management workflows and maximise their automation wherever possible.
  • Assist users with reporting requirements and promote best practice in data quality and reporting.
  • Maintain trackers, registers and reporting systems to support compliance and operational delivery.
  • Support SCS and parent companies assurance activities and audits by providing the required Environment & Sustainability data, including, but not limited to, collating it, compiling supporting evidence, and attending to present it.
  • Manage environmental and technical documentation through the respective systems.
  • Coordinate meetings, training sessions and team communications.
  • Support awareness campaigns, presentations, briefings and sustainability initiatives.

Stakeholder & Operational Support

  • Liaise with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners to support project delivery.
  • Coordinate between technical specialists and operational teams to ensure requirements are communicated effectively.
  • Support implementation of systems and processes that improve environmental performance and project efficiency.

The Ideal CandidateRequired qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes

  • Strong organizational, analytical and compositional capabilities.
  • Experience managing and analysing data using Microsoft Excel and other similar and/or more advanced tools.
  • Experience producing meaningful dashboards, reports and visualisations for stakeholders, targeted to the audience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload effectively.

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting UK cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £4 billion with the works due for completion in 2025.
