Role Overview
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining cloud infrastructure, automation tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and platform services that enable development teams to deliver software efficiently and securely. You will work closely with developers, architects, DevOps engineers, and delivery teams to create scalable, reliable, and highly available environments. The successful candidate will have strong cloud engineering experience, a passion for automation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure and platform services.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
- Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support efficient software delivery.
- Automate platform provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
- Support development teams by providing self-service platform capabilities and tooling.
- Implement and maintain containerisation and orchestration solutions.
- Monitor platform performance, availability, security, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, and platform-related issues.
- Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to design scalable and resilient solutions.
- Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with organisational standards.
- Contribute to platform engineering standards, documentation, and operational procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across infrastructure and deployment processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep.
- Strong knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker.
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Jenkins.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration.
- Experience with Scripting and automation using tools such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or similar.
- Understanding of networking, security, identity management, and cloud governance principles.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working within public sector or regulated environments.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and cloud security frameworks.
- Experience implementing platform engineering and self-service developer platforms.
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies and modern cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with secrets management and identity solutions.
- Relevant certifications in AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, or cloud platforms.
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation programmes.
