Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer who will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Back End services using Python and Django. You'll work within multidisciplinary Agile teams, collaborating with product managers, designers, and DevOps engineers to deliver secure, resilient, and user-focused applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Back End applications using Python and Django.
  • Build secure RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and third-party services.
  • Develop applications following GOV.UK Frontend design principles and standards.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorisation using OIDC and OAuth 2.0.
  • Develop and maintain PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, and migrations.
  • Containerise applications using Docker and Docker Compose for local development and deployment.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following best engineering practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous service improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality digital services.

Required Skills

  • Excellent hands-on experience with Python and the Django framework.
  • Good understanding and practical experience working within Agile delivery teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GOV.UK Frontend and Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
  • Good understanding of authentication and authorisation protocols, including OpenID Connect (OIDC) and OAuth 2.0.
  • Experience using Docker and Docker Compose for application development.
  • Excellent understanding of PostgreSQL, including database design and optimisation.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on UK Public Sector digital transformation projects.
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest.
