You will be responsible for designing and executing comprehensive test strategies that ensure mobile applications meet the highest standards of quality, accessibility, and security. This is a hands‑on, delivery-focused role operating within structured and governed environments where reliability, usability, and compliance are critical to service success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for native iOS and Android applications
- Perform functional, regression, integration, usability, and exploratory testing across mobile platforms
- Validate mobile applications against WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards using assistive technologies (VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and technical evidence
- Develop and maintain automated test suites for mobile applications where appropriate
- Test across a range of devices, OS versions, screen sizes, and network conditions
- Validate API integrations and end‑to‑end data flows between mobile clients and backend services
- Collaborate closely with iOS and Android developers, UX designers, and product owners to ensure quality throughout the delivery lifecycle
- Contribute to test completion reports, defect triage sessions, and go/no‑go release decisions
- Support CI/CD pipeline integration for automated test execution
Qualifications
- Strong experience in mobile application testing across both iOS and Android platforms
- Hands‑on experience with mobile testing tools such as XCTest, Espresso, Appium, Detox, or equivalent
- Solid understanding of mobile-specific testing considerations including device fragmentation, OS version compatibility, and network variability
- Experience with API testing tools (e.g. Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI)
- Proficiency in writing clear, structured test plans, test cases, and defect reports
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and standards (WCAG 2.2, VoiceOver, TalkBack, AccessibilityInspector)
- Experience with defect management and test management tools (e.g. Jira, Zephyr, TestRail, AzureDevOps)
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models (Scrum, Kanban)
- Experience working in regulated, security-conscious, or high‑assurance environments
- Experience testing mobile applications within a UK public-sector or government context
- Familiarity with GDS service standards, the Technology Code of Practice, and the GOV.UK Design System
- Experience with mobile test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration (e.g. Fastlane, Xcode Cloud, GitHub Actions)
- Understanding of mobile performance testing and profiling tools
- Experience with security testing for mobile applications (e.g. OWASP Mobile Testing Guide)
- Experience with mobile device management (MDM) and enterprise app distribution testing
Scope & Accountability
- Responsible for hands‑on mobile test design, execution, and defect management
- Owns the quality and accuracy of assigned test artefacts, results, and defect documentation
- Contributes analysis and quality recommendations but does not hold final assurance authority
- Accountable for timely delivery of agreed testing activities within sprint cycles
