Graduate Content Designer / UX Writer / Copywriter

Staines, United Kingdom | Posted on 06/10/2025

Location: Staines or Newcastle (hybrid/flexible)

Why this role matters

At Scrumconnect we design and build digital public services with UK government departments. The words we choose help millions of people complete important tasks—claim their pension, apply for support, understand their rights—quickly and confidently. As our Graduate Content Designer, you’ll learn the craft from a Senior Content Designer, get hands-on across bids and marketing, and see your words directly improve people’s lives.

What you’ll do

Design clear, accessible content for websites, product interfaces and service journeys (microcopy, forms, error messages, guidance, emails/SMS, help content).

Support bids and proposals: craft concise answers, case studies, win themes and executive summaries that align to evaluation criteria and our tone of voice.

Shape our website and blog: plan and publish pages, edit for plain English, optimise for search, and keep our case studies fresh.

Create marketing copy: social posts, one-pagers, slide copy, event blurbs—always grounded in user value and measurable outcomes.

Work in multidisciplinary teams: pair-write with designers and researchers, collaborate with product managers, engineers and subject experts.

Champion accessibility and inclusion: write to WCAG-friendly patterns, use the GOV.UK/GDS style where appropriate, and test content with users.

Measure and iterate: use analytics, feedback and user research insights to improve content over time.

Learn fast: take part in critiques, content clinics and show-and-tells; capture and reuse patterns in a content library.

How you’ll be supported

Coaching & mentorship: you’ll be paired with a Senior Content Designer for regular 1:1s, shadowing and pair-writing.

Clear growth path: from graduate to independent contributor—building a portfolio across delivery, bids and marketing.

Community of practice: join our design community for critiques, templates, and cross-gov best practice.

What you’ll bring

We’re not looking for a perfect CV—we’re looking for potential and curiosity. You might have studied English, Communications, UX, HCI, Psychology, Design… or something totally different. What matters is that you:

Write simply and clearly, tailoring for web and product interfaces.

Care about users and can show how you solved a problem with words.

Organise information logically; you enjoy turning complex policy or process into step-by-step guidance.

Edit ruthlessly and take feedback well.

Collaborate with different disciplines and stakeholders.

Manage your time across multiple small tasks and deadlines.

Familiarity with the GOV.UK Style Guide , GDS Service Standard and plain-English principles.

Exposure to user research (note-taking, analysing findings, running content testing).

Comfort with everyday tools like Google Docs, a CMS, Jira/Confluence, Figma, or basic analytics.

Awareness of accessibility (e.g., headings, link text, reading age).

What success looks like

3 months: you’re shipping small pieces of content with review; contributing to bid answers; publishing blog posts with guidance.

6 months: you own pages or flows end-to-end, propose improvements based on data, and draft first-pass bid sections.

12 months: you’re trusted to lead small content tasks independently, contribute to content patterns, and strengthen our tone across channels.

Scrumconnect is a mission-driven consultancy helping the public sector deliver accessible, reliable digital services. Our teams have supported services used by millions of citizens and have been recognised at national awards for impact and delivery. You’ll add your voice to that impact from day one.

Inclusion matters

We’re building a team where everyone belongs. If you’re excited by this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every point, please apply—you could be a great fit. We welcome career-changers and first-generation grads.

How to apply

Send your CV and 2–3 short writing samples (or a portfolio). Links are fine. Note:

Candidates living near London: 1 day per week in the Staines office.

Candidates not near London: 1 day per week in the Newcastle office.

Newcastle-based candidates: 1 day per month in the Staines office, with the remaining weekly attendance in the Newcastle office.
